Over-the-Top Video
Over-the-Top TV is the delivery of video directly via the open or “unmanaged” Internet. By leveraging this open network it has the potential to transform the TV industry with new business models for existing stakeholders while also opening the doors to many new players. Whereas only a couple of years ago the video choices on the Internet were limited to grainy home movies on YouTube, today’s choices are much higher quality and increasingly attractive with access to paid and free top-tier programming. Ambitious users are already starting to cancel their existing cable and IPTV subscriptions and receive all of their TV content via the Internet. If the trend continues, even non-ambitious users will take similar action.
